Practicing Psychometry in Tibet
by Edwin Harkness Spina
Our recent trip to Tibet gave us an opportunity to practice
a very useful mystic skill. Psychometry is the ability to
sense subtle energy vibrations from material objects. Tuning
into a piece of artwork can add "another dimension" to your
appreciation of it.
Ever since the early 1900s, scientists have confirmed that
everything is energy. Nobel Prize winner, Ernest Rutherford
contributed the understanding that matter is mostly "empty
space." Another Nobel Prize winner, Louis de Broglie,
hypothesized that all matter has a wave-like nature, which
was later proven. In 1982, French scientist Alain Aspect
showed that information is somehow transferred at speeds
beyond the speed of light, which violated one of Einstein's
most fundamental axioms about our physical universe.
All these famous scientists confirmed what mystics have told
us for centuries. "Everything is energy. You distinguish one
substance from another by its rate of vibration or
frequency." Mystics have also taught that much of the energy
that affects our world is not perceivable by our simple
objective senses. These influential energies can be of
either higher or lower vibration. As examples, infrared
radiation is below our visible threshold and x-rays are
above it.
Each of our five objective senses, sight, hearing, taste,
smell and touch, has a corresponding inner sense. The inner
senses respond to vibrations that are much more subtle than
physical vibrations. That is why when you meditate, you want
to eliminate physical distractions, such as loud noises,
bright lights, strong smells or unpleasant surroundings.
Eliminating these helps you to to perceive the subtle
vibrations, which are much higher and finer in vibration
With practice, you can develop your inner senses and
perceive phenomena beyond your objective senses.
Some people ridicule this idea, but remember, if you placed
a person from the 18th century in any modern city today and
told him that "invisible radio and TV" waves were passing
through his body he would have also thought you were crazy.
The mystic practice of psychometry relies upon the use of
your inner sense of touch or feeling. The simplest
impressions you may receive are emotions, but the
impressions may also come in the form of sounds, smells,
tastes or images. We had many opportunities to practice in
Tibet.
The Potala Palace, located in Lhasa, is the center of
Tibetan government. It's 13 stories tall and appears even
larger, having been built into the side of a mountain. It is
divided into religious (red) and administrative (white)
sections. I was eager to sense the vibrations within.
Upon entering the Potala Palace we were ushered into a
waiting room. Only a certain number of people are allowed to
visit each day and visitors are kept on tight schedules to
ensure that the Palace does not get damaged. While waiting,
I put my hands on the wall to sense the vibrations. Clearly,
you could sense the love and devotion of the Tibetan people
who had visited and worshiped at this site for over 1300
years.
As we got closer to the center of the Palace the feelings of
love got stronger. There was no need to try and perceive the
subtle emanations with my hands. The energy surrounded us.
We passed by the rooms where the young Dalai Lama would
receive his daily instruction. The strongest love vibrations
were in the central temple in the heart of the Palace. This
contained priceless relics, many made of gold, which is
excellent at holding these subtle vibrations.
The Tibet Museum contains many ancient scriptures,
tapestries, thangkas, statues and other works of art. The
amount of love that went into each of these artifacts when
they were created, as well as the appreciation of the
observers that got to see, pray or chant in the presence of
these works of art infused them with energy. This loving
energy field was palpable and everyone in our group could
sense it.
Many of the Tibetan monasteries in the area were also
infused with this loving vibration. Our impressions varied
in intensity, based on where in the monastery we were
allowed to visit. One site with extremely strong energy was
the Palco Monastery. We were allowed to listen to the monks
chant and to take pictures. Dozens of orbs appeared in
Christine's pictures. (Not every monastery would let us take
pictures.)
Another site with strong energy was at the Jokhang
Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet. We entered
while several hundred people were worshiping. On the roof
above, several dozen monks were praying, adding to the
loving energy being generated.
At the Sakya Monastery, in Shigatse, everyone in our party
was given a small bottle of "Tibetan Magic Water." This was
the best tasting water that I've ever had. Clearly, the
water was infused with the love of the monk's chanting and
devotional practices.
While Tibet is a wonderful place to perceive these subtle
vibrations, you can practice psychometry on your own,
anywhere. One of the best ways is to exchange watches or
rings with people in a group where everyone does not know
each other very well. Watches or rings are especially good,
as, typically, they've been in one person's possession for
many years and so are thoroughly infused with that person's
energy. To get the clearest impressions, hold the object in
your non-dominant hand, that is, if you're right handed,
your left hand which will be more receptive. Close your eyes
and tune into the object. Sometimes, asking yourself
questions, such as "happy or sad", "positive of negative"
can help you to focus. With practice you'll improve.
Metals hold vibrations very well. So do crystals. This may
sound very airy-fairy, but if anyone ever pokes fun at you,
you may remind them that our entire computer industry is
dependent on the specific properties of quartz crystals.
Even today, scientists are conducting advanced research on
the use of quartz crystals to store information. Soon
they'll discover what mystics already know - that crystals
are great at storing subtle energies - so get a head start
and begin practicing psychometry today.
Best wishes,
Ed
